City Council Issues Proclamation Supporting Essential Workers

Yesterday, the City Council issued a proclamation advocating for greater protections for essential healthcare workers, first responders, and front line workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Council asked that leaders in Washington ensure an adequate supply of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) by instituting a national supply chain and utilizing the Defense Production Act. Additionally, the Council called on New York State to continue its leadership and require all health systems and facilities to report COVID-19 case data daily, including positive cases and deaths.

“As our communities enter the reopening phases, the Council believes it is crucial we safeguard ourselves from future health emergencies by requiring health systems and facilities to register health emergency plans,” said Council President Loretta C. Scott, “We must ensure compliance among our health systems, especially in long-term facilities, housing the most vulnerable of our citizens. Collaboration among all levels of government is necessary as we move forward and stabilize the health of our country.”
