News Release - Maplewood Rose Celebration Cancelled Due to COVID-19 Concerns

City of Rochester

News Release

(Monday, June 8, 2020) – The popular Maplewood Rose Celebration that was scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 13 has been cancelled due to concerns related to public gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our staff works really hard to prepare the rose garden for this annual event,” said Department of Recreation and Youth Services Commissioner Daniele Lyman-Torres. “The roses are truly spectacular, and even though we are unable to have the festival this year, we invite folks to visit the garden and enjoy the beauty of the roses throughout the month of June. We look forward to a renewed event in 2021.”

The Maplewood Rose Celebration has taken place at the Maplewood Rose Garden for more than 30 years. The garden, maintained by the City of Rochester and located at the corner of Lake Avenue and Driving Park, is home to over 3000 roses in hundreds of varieties and has been nationally recognized by the American Rose Society.

The roses should reach peak bloom around June 15 through early July. However, the garden and the beauty of the adjacent Lower Falls Park can be enjoyed throughout the entire summer season.

All park visitors are reminded to wear masks and practice social distancing when in close proximity to others.
