News Release -- Raymond Mayoliz Named Coordinator of Roc MBK Initiatives

City of Rochester

News Release

(Tuesday, June 2, 2020) – Raymond “Ray” Mayoliz, former Manager for the City’s Pathways to Peace program, has been named Coordinator of Roc MBK Initiatives with the Department of Recreation & Youth Services (DRYS), effective June 1, 2020.

MBK, or My Brother’s Keeper, was launched by former President Barack Obama in February 2014. The MBK Alliance encourages local leaders and their respective communities to come together to develop and implement a coherent “cradle-to-college-and-career strategy” to improve life outcomes for all young people by using existing evidence-based and data-driven strategies to develop long-term and sustainable strategic action plans. It also calls on leaders to identify and partner with all community stakeholders in order to assess local needs and existing assets, determine collective priorities and set common goals for improvement.

In his new role, Mayoliz will be charged with overseeing the City of Rochester’s community programs that address the MBK challenge, which targets mentoring and support for the personal, academic and social success of youth.

“Ray’s extensive experience overseeing the Pathways to Peace program in his previous role as Manager of Youth Outreach and Violence Prevention provides him with the best perspective on what is needed from the community to support young men of color with achieving success,” said DRYS Commissioner Daniele Lyman-Torres. “Ray has been involved with the work of the MBK Alliance since 2014 and has engaged in both national and statewide forums, sharing best practices that can be implemented here in Rochester.”

Funded by a grant from the New York State Department of Education provided to RCSD, the local effort of the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance focuses on the personal and academic success of young men of color. RCSD has contracted with the City of Rochester to fund the Coordinator for the MBK program. The Coordinator of Roc MBK Initiatives will organize and manage all efforts under the initiative being conducted by RCSD and the City of Rochester.
