City Council Discusses Community Concerns Related to Policing and the 2020-21 Budget

Today, members of the Rochester City Council gathered in person for the first time in months to discuss community concerns focused on policing and to address the 2020-21 City Budget. The Council discussed the path forward for the Police Accountability Board, policing practices already implemented by the Rochester Police Department, public safety advocacy efforts supported by the Council, and actions taken in the Fiscal Year 2020-21 Budget, and further amendment to be made.

“This has been an incredibly difficult Budget year, we are in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and at the same time we are seeing a national reckoning around institutional and structural racism,” said City Council President Loretta C. Scott, “We are the fiscal stewards of this City, and the amendments and actions we offer allow us to maintain a balanced budget.  At the same time, these actions lay a foundation for us to holistically re-imagine what policing in Rochester could look like moving forward.”
