News Release - Mayor Warren Announces ROC’N Drive-In

City of Rochester

News Release

(Friday, June 19, 2020) -- Mayor Lovely A. Warren today announced the ROC’N Drive-In, a series of pop-up drive-in movies that will take place in the VIP Parking Lot at Frontier Field, 1 Morrie Silver Way, beginning Thursday, June 25.

The City is partnering with the Red Wings, MVP Health Care and The Cinema Theater to build a temporary drive-in that will provide entertainment while adhering to New York State’s guidelines on social distancing.

“I could not be more excited to offer our community a way to get together while staying safe,” said Mayor Lovely Warren. “Creating a drive-in theater in the heart of our city has been so much fun and with partners like the Rochester Red Wings, MVP Health Care and The Cinema, this event will provide an experience like no other. With an earlier start than traditional drive-ins, we hope to attract families and provide a once-in-lifetime summer experience downtown!”

“We are excited to be working with Mayor Warren and her team to host this unique event at the ballpark,” said Red Wings President/CEO/COO Naomi Silver. “We are all about creating great memories for families in our area and while we cannot provide baseball as the backdrop for those memories at this time, events like the Roc’N Drive In give our fans an opportunity to come back to the ballpark to share some special times with family and friends while enjoying some of their favorite ballpark cuisine and movies under the stars.”

The drive-in will take place on four weekends and showcase a double feature every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. A 44 ft., high-definition LED screen will allow the first movie to begin at 6:30 p.m., making the event even more family-friendly than a traditional drive-in where movies begin after dark. Tickets will be $25 per car, creating an experience that will be accessible for many. Thursday nights will be “Date Nites” and feature titles for mature audiences, while Friday and Saturday will showcase movies for all ages.

“We are proud to partner with the City of Rochester to create unique opportunities for families to enjoy the outdoors,” said MVP Health Care representative, Yvonne Donnelly. “Now, more than ever, people are looking for fun ways to spend time together safely and we are excited to offer our community one of those options. We look forward to seeing you at the drive in theater.”

The dates and movie schedule for the ROC’N Drive-In are:

  • Thu., June 25: Mission Impossible: Fallout; Casino Royale
  • Fri., June 26 and Sat., June 27: How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World; Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

The drive-in is compliant with Governor Cuomo’s May 11 announcement that drive-in theaters could begin operating on May 15. Precautions have been taken to keep the event in compliance with NYS guidelines for social distancing. Movie-goers will be allowed to either sit inside of their vehicle or in a designated empty parking space adjacent to their vehicle. Concessions and restrooms will be available inside the stadium’s concourse. Everyone will be required to wear a mask when accessing the concessions and/or restrooms.
