News Release -- Emergency Communications Department Seeks Re-Accreditation, Invites Public Comment

City of Rochester

News Release

(Monday, July 6, 2020) – The Emergency Communications Department (ECD), under the direction of Director Michael J. Cerretto, is an accredited agency through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The ECD is scheduled for a virtual site-based assessment as part of a program to achieve national accreditation by verifying that it meets professional standards.

Assessors will be examining all aspects of the Department’s policy and procedures; administration, operations, training, direction and authority, organization, critical incidents and homeland security.
Verification by the assessors that the Department continues to meet the Commission’s internationally accepted standards is part of a voluntary process to secure re-accreditation – a highly coveted recognition of public safety communications professional excellence. This assessment must be renewed and re-verified every four years.

As part of the virtual site-based assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments by telephone by calling 585-777-4449 on July 14, 2020 between the hours of 3 and 5 p.m. CALEA Assessors will be available at that time to take your comments.

Telephone comments will be limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. Anyone wishing to review the standards may contact CALEA via their website at https://www.calea.org/contact-us.

Individuals may contact Training Manager, Damaris Rivera at 585-528-2200 or via email at damarisrivera@monroecounty.gov for further information. Accreditation Team members include Danielle Erway, Zahilis Carmona, Shelby Boyd and Mathew Johnson.

Persons wishing to offer written comments about the Department’s ability to meet the standards for accreditation are requested to write to: CALEA, 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, VA, 20155.

Accreditation is important to the ECD as a way of recognizing Telecommunicators and Dispatchers for their outstanding service. These men and women answer 9-1-1 calls for service and dispatch police, fire, and emergency medical services for the city of Rochester and county of Monroe.
