News Release - Kite Flight Returns to the Shores of Lake Ontario

City of Rochester

News Release

(Friday, May 14, 2021) – A perennial harbinger of spring, the City of Rochester’s annual Kite Flight returns to Ontario Beach Park, 12 noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, May 16. The free event features demonstrations by expert kite flyers, strolling jugglers and other street performers, kite making and craft workshops and children’s activities hosted by the City’s Rec on the Move staff. Refreshments will be available by the expert chefs of the Charlotte Neighborhood Association as a fundraiser for the oldest of city neighborhood associations.

“I am delighted that the Ontario Beach Park Program Committee continues to plan this family favorite each year,” said Mayor Lovely Warren. “Kite Flight kicks off the warm weather season at the beach and the beautiful kites always serve to lift our spirits. Although the event had to be modified slightly to meet state and county COVID-19 guidelines, Kite Flight still provides a great opportunity for families to get out and enjoy one of Rochester’s most beautiful parks.”

Kite Flight is presented each year by the Ontario Beach Park Program Committee, the City and Monroe County. Masks and social distancing will be required by all attendees and numerous sanitizing stations will be available.
