News Release - Mayor Warren Kicks Off Caribbean-American Heritage Month 2021

(Friday June 4, 2021) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren joined by City Council President Loretta C. Scott today proclaimed the month of June 2021 as Caribbean-American Heritage Month in the city of Rochester, beginning a celebration of the 24 unique cultures of the Caribbean nations.

“The City of Rochester is proud of the many contributions by its Caribbean American community and recognizes the vibrant culture, visual and performing arts, cuisine, and leadership that adds to the vibrancy and diversity of our great city,” said Mayor Warren. “We extend a warm and heartfelt congratulations to the Rochester West Indian Festival Organization and the Rochester Jamaican Organization for their prosperous efforts to share and promote the cultural heritage of our Caribbean American community.”

The Proclamation was issued at the special celebration on the steps of City Hall that recognized the contributions of Rochester's Caribbean community and featured Caribbean music, food and fellowship. The flags of all 24 Caribbean nations are on display outside of City Hall through the month of June.

Mayor Warren, the Rochester West Indian Festival Organization and the Rochester Jamaican Organization honored distinguished Caribbean residents of Rochester.
