Motorist Advisory Bridge Project Causing Delays on East Main Street between Railroad and Circle Streets

City of Rochester

Motorist Advisory

(Saturday, June 5, 2021) – Motorist should expect periodic delays while crossing the East Main Street Bridge over the CSX railroad tracks due to the current phase of a bridge maintenance project.

A preventive maintenance project on the bridge between Railroad and Circle streets began in May and is expected to be complete by the end of this year’s construction season. The street will be open to two way traffic throughout the project; however, at times trained flaggers will be on site to direct the flow of traffic and pedestrians as needed.

A lane shift was incorporated into the project Friday and is causing longer delays during peak traffic volumes, such as when the City of Rochester Public Market is open and draws traffic to the southern entrance off Railroad Street. The proximity to a street construction project on East Main.

Street from Goodman Street to Culver Road also contributes to the delays while motorist learn to navigate the temporary traffic pattern.

The final Flower City Days at the Market of the 2021 season will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 6. Regular Market Days are from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.

Market shoppers who want to avoid East Main Street can use one of the Market’s northern entrances.

  • Motorists from the east can take North Goodman Street to Pennsylvania Avenue to First Street to the Market’s northeast entrance.
  • Motorist from the west can take Union Street to the Market’s northwest entrance, across from Trinidad Street; or Scio Street to the back entrance of the Market’s Trinidad Street parking lot. The restaurants and shops on Railroad Street will remain accessible from these entrances using the Market’s perimeter road.
