Arnett Library Celebrating Mural Completion

Central Library of Rochester & Monroe County

News Release

(Friday, September 10, 2021) – The Arnett Branch of the Rochester Public Library invites the community to celebrate the completion of the Book Spine Mural at 6 p.m., Wednesday, September 15.
Artists Ebony Singleton, Chloe Smith and Richmond Futch Jr., the project lead, will be in attendance. In addition, two authors whose books now adorn the library will be there: Kathleen Blasi and Leslie Youngblood. There will be light refreshments, music, and activities for kids.

The Book Spine Mural project started in 2017 to showcase books near and dear to the Arnett Branch community. Titles and images honoring Rochester’s great civil heroes, including Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony, now adorn the exterior of the building along with a blue dragon from Eragon, Aslan from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and others to inspire reading in viewers of all ages.

The event will be held outside but may move indoors, weather permitting. To request special accommodations, call 585-428-8304 ten days before the program.
