Description:

Mayor Lovely Warren’s Reparations and Universal Basic Income (RUBI) Committee will host a virtual community forum on a proposed Guaranteed Basic Income pilot.

“The concepts of Reparations and Universal Basic Income provide an excellent and exciting opportunity to help families overcome poverty and create a more just and equitable Rochester,” said Mayor Warren. “We are exhausting every possible approach to improve outcomes for our families; even if that means investing in them through a regular, basic living stipend. I encourage the community’s participation in this community conversation on a potential Guaranteed Basic Income program for Rochester.”

The UBI subcommittee will discuss the differences between Universal Basic Income and Guaranteed Basic Income as well as a present a working proposal for Rochester residents. The public is encouraged to offer its input and share any feedback.

The RUBI exploratory committee is charged with reviewing existing Universal Basic Income and reparation pilots in other communities to understand what life-changing programs can be developed in Rochester. The initiative seeks to use potential marijuana tax revenue to close the wealth gap to achieve equity and home ownership.
