(Friday, Oct. 1, 2021) – This morning, Rochester Deputy Mayor James Smith and Rochester Fire Chief Felipe Hernandez Jr. joined officials from the Rochester School for the Deaf and the Rochester Chapter of the American Red Cross for a ceremony to kick off Fire Prevention Week on the campus of the Rochester School for the Deaf.

The ceremony celebrated this year’s theme of “Learn the Sounds and Signs of Fire Safety.” The Deputy Mayor and Fire Chief read and presented a Mayoral Proclamation declaring October 3-9 as Fire Safety Week in Rochester. Rochester School for the Deaf students and staff helped kick off this National Week of Fire Prevention and Safety.

The Rochester Fire Department is working to make sure that all citizens are included in this week by collaborating with the American Red Cross, Greater Rochester Chapter to provide appropriate alarms to people in need of them.

City residents can call 311 to request a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm from the Rochester Fire Department.
