News Release - Mayor Evans Joins Mayor Brown, other N.Y. Mayors for Statewide Gun Violence Press Conference

(Monday, May 30, 2022) – Mayor Malik D. Evans will join mayors from across New York State tomorrow to kick off Gun Violence Awareness Month in a first-of-its-kind virtual statewide press conference.

Mayor Byron Brown of Buffalo is hosting the event, which will feature remarks from Mayor Eric Adams of New York City, Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard of Mount Vernon, Mayor Evans, Mayor Kathy Sheehan of Albany, Mayor Wilfred Rosas of Dunkirk and Mayor Robert Restaino of Niagara Falls. Also speaking will be Reverend Paul Thomas, Pastor of Buffalo AME Church and anti-gun violence advocates K. Bain, Founder and Executive Director of Community Capacity Development and Linda Beigel Schulman, Founder of Scott J. Beigel Memorial Fund.

Gun Violence Awareness Month is a month-long, statewide campaign in New York to raise awareness on the severe impact of gun violence in our communities, while promoting conversation and action.

In Rochester, Mayor Evans will join Monroe County Executive Adam Bello and representatives from Moms Demand Action and the ROC Against Gun Violence Coalition for a City/County proclamation and news conference on gun violence on Friday, June 3 at City Hall. The city’s skyline will be lit orange June 3–5 to recognize National Gun Violence Awareness month.
