City of Rochester

News Release

(January 23, 2009) - Mayor Robert J. Duffy today released the following statement on Gov. David Paterson’s appointment of Kirsten Gillibrand to the U.S. Senate.

“While I have never met Congresswoman Gillibrand and do not know her personally, I have heard very good things about her. She has a reputation as an outstanding advocate for the people of her district and I am encouraged by her connections to Upstate New York. I have the utmost respect for Governor Paterson’s judgment and support his decision. I look forward to meeting our future Senator and will do all I can to help her succeed.”

Gov. Paterson had invited Mayor Duffy to be present at the State Capitol today as the governor made his announcement. However, the mayor could not attend because he had commitments in Rochester after traveling to Albany Thursday to testify at a joint hearing of the Senate Finance and Assembly Ways and Means committees and meet with other state leaders on the proposed executive budget.
