News Release - MVP Health Care' Tuesday Nature Nights Begin May 26

City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, May 20, 2009) - "MVP Health Care Tuesday Nature Nights," the City’s outdoor series focusing on the beauty and recreational benefits of Rochester’s natural surroundings, begins 6–8 p.m., Tues., May 26 with a guided bike ride through the High Falls neighborhood. Participants will meet at the Pont de Rennes pedestrian bridge, behind the Centers at High Falls, 60 Brown’s Race, and discover more about the newest developments along the Genesee River and the history of the area during their excursion.

These FREE tours, which continue every Tuesday through August 25, are led by City staff and members of the Rochester Bicycling Club and are designed for all ages. Tours include bike rides, hikes and canoe paddles, often utilizing the nationally-touted Genesee Riverway Trail.

The tours highlight Rochester history during this 175th anniversary year and also focus on the benefits of an active life style.

“This program supplements other efforts of long-time sponsor MVP Health Care (formerly Preferred Care) to increase public awareness of the positive results that even moderate, regular exercise have on an individual’s overall health,” said Mayor Robert J. Duffy, “The city is fortunate to have such supportive corporate partners, allowing us to offer valuable free activities for our residents.”

This year, another community partner, FOODLINK, will also be on-site at the conclusion of the tour on May 26 as well as subsequent tours on June 2, 23 and 30, and August 4 and 18 with healthy food choices available for purchase.

Nature Nights are a part of the city’s popular “Flower City Looking Good” program. Walks and rides are leisurely with slight grade changes, mostly on paths or sidewalks. Bicycle helmets required.
