Cool Sweep - Relief from Summer Heat


Cool Down with Cool Sweep  by Avangrid and RG&E 

The 2020 Cool Sweep program, presented by Avangrid Foundation and RG&E provides cooling opportunities at City swimming pools and spray parks for residents to get relief from the summer heat. 

The 2020 Cool Sweep season take place on Monday through  Saturday from June 29 to Aug. 29, 2020. (Cool Sweeps do not take place on Sundays or on July 4). A Cool Sweep operation is triggered when the National Weather Service forecast calls for temperatures to reach or exceed 85 degrees. 

Cool Sweep Locations

Spray Parks and Spray Features: Noon to 6 p.m. 

Note: due to the Coronavirus pandemic, visitors are asked to observe posted capacity limits at each site. Capacities noted in parenthesis below  

  • Carter Street R-Center, 500 Carter St. (40)
  • Tyshaun Cauldwell Center for Hope,  524 Campbell St. (20)
  • Edgerton R-Center, 41 Backus St. (50)
  • Humboldt R-Center, 1045 Atlantic Ave. (40)
  • David F. Gantt R-Center, 700 North St. (50)

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Park Spray Feature (playground area), 353 Court St. (10)

Swimming Pools

  • Genesee Valley Park Pool, 131 Elmwood Ave., noon to 7 p.m.,  Monday through Sunday. (note: GVP Pool is closed July 10)
  • Adams Street R-Center, 85 Adams St., noon to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (Opens July 6)
  • Trenton and Pamela Jackson R-Center, 485 N. Clinton Ave., noon to 6:30 p.m.. Monday through Friday (Opens July 6)

Heat Emergency

When temperatures are forecasted to be 90 degrees and above, a the David F. Gantt R-Center, 700 North St., will be opened as an  Emergency Cooling Center  from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
