Swimming Lessons

The City of Rochester Bureau of Recreation encourages all city youth and adults to become skilled swimmers and seize the opportunity to enjoy the water.  

Through its Swim Academy, the City of Rochester Bureau of Recreation offers free youth swim lessons throughout the year. Adult lessons are offered as well, as is Lifeguarding Training each spring (call 428-7888 or 428-7456 for more information).  

 Swim Team Rapids:  (Will resume Practices beginning Monday February 8th,2021.)
 Rochester Rapids Swim Team is committed to developing a culture of life-long involvement in swimming by providing youth in and around the City of Rochester the finest opportunities for competition and community involvement through the sport of swimming.  Click here for more information on dates and locations.  

 

Learn to Swim Classes:  Session 2 will resume beginning Friday February 5th,2021 and Saturday February 6th,2021.  Aquatic staff will be contacting you if you want to resume your participation in the session you signed up for.  There will be no classes on the following dates; February 12th, 19th(Fri.) and 20th(Sat.) and April 2nd(Fri.) and April 3rd(Sat.).

 Learn Swim Academy offers Free  swim lessons at six different skill levels for youth 6-17 and low-priced lessons for adults. Due to Covid-10 restrictions capacity will be limited.

Fall Session :
Friday Nights 6-8 p.m. October 9th thru December 4th, 2020  Saturday 10:30am-12:30p.m.October 10th thru December 5th,2020. No class on November 27th and 28th due to Thanksgiving Weekend.

Winter/Spring Session :  (Orange zone has been lifted effective January 28th,2021.   We will hold classes now on the following;
Friday Nights 6-8 p.m. February 5th thru April 9th, 2021 and Saturday 10:30am-12:30 p.m. February 6th thru April 10th,2021.  There will be no class on February 12th, 19th(Fridays) and 20th(Saturday) and April 2nd(Friday) and 3rd(Saturday) due to Holiday Weekend.

Baby and Me Swim Lessons:  

 Lessons will resume for Session 2 on February 6th-March 13th,2021 and Session 3 on March 20th-April 24th,2021.  Parents and Guardians introduce children to the water and how to work with their child safely, including basic body positions and holding techniques to promote water comfort.  One Adult per child is required.  Swim diapers must be worn.  Lessons are 30 minutes long unless otherwise noted.  Lessons are Free!

Saturdays: 9:45am-10:15am

Dates:  October 10th thru November 14th,2020

               February 6th thru March 13th,2021 

               March 20th thru April 24th,2021 

Pre-K Swim Lessons(Ages 4 and 5):  Classes will resume February 6th thru April 10th with no class on February 20th and April 3rd.  Children are introduced to water safety and rules that will assist with them focusing and becoming comfortable in the water.  Children will be introduced to water exploration that include fun and games.  Class sizes are minimal to ensure proper instruction.  Use of floatation devices may be used in some classes.  Lessons are Free !!!

Adult Swim Lessons:  (Adult Lessons will resume beginning February 10th,2021 with a new schedule for our re-opening.)

For more information about adult lessons that begin on Wednesday Nights on October 14th from 7-8 p.m. at both Adams St. and Trenton & Pamela Jackson R-Center pools, call Adams Pool at 428-7456 and Trenton & Pamela Jackson Pool at 428-6908 or download application .  Cost is $20 for the six week session.  Two other sessions will be available beginning for Session 2 on February 10th-March 24th,2021 and Session 3 on March 31st-May 5th, 2021.
