City of Rochester

News Release

(Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011) — City Neighborhood and Business Development Commissioner R. Carlos Carballada joined Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks, New York State Senator Joseph E. Robach and owners Tracy and David Scalen today to celebrate the expansion of Regional Distributors at 1281 Mt. Read Blvd.

“It is the small- to medium-sized companies that form the foundation of Rochester’s economy, so it is gratifying to witness the tremendous success of a company like Regional Distributors,” said Commissioner Carballada. “We are truly fortunate to have entrepreneurs like Tracy and David Scalen who are so dedicated to our city. They are helping us keep our economy stable in these difficult times.”

“The City of Rochester’s Department of Neighborhood of Business Development assisted us through the entire process of this project, from zoning and planning right through to working with the County and Canandaigua National Bank,” said David Scalen. “The assistance that the City provided will help us create new jobs in the community.”

The expansion is the result of $2 million in investments that Regional Distributors has put toward acquisitions and renovations in recent years. The City will provide $40,000 in grants toward its continued growth, $30,000 for renovations and $10,000 for security enhancements. In 2005, the City helped the company relocate from Greece to Rochester by assisting with site selection and providing a $100,000 loan toward equipment purchases. Regional Distributors has 32 full-time and five part-time employees.

Regional Distributors opened on Elser Street in Rochester in 1994 and moved to Greece in 2001. The company returned to Rochester in 2005 to accommodate its growth after acquiring Rochester Janitor Supplies Regional and Green Oaks Janitor Supply, Inc. In the 2006, Regional acquired Paper Distributors, Inc., in the Buffalo market.

Regional Distributors’ city location spans adjacent properties on Mt. Read Boulevard and Lexington Avenue, encompassing more than 100,000 square feet of office and warehouse space and a parking area for a fleet of more than 10 trucks.
