THRIVE is the City of Rochester's Teen Pregnancy Prevention program led by the Department of Recreation and Youth Services. THRIVE in collaboration with several community service agencies work to reduce teen pregnancies and reduce STD/HIV rates among youth within the City of Rochester. 

Program Offerings 

 THRIVE Education

Certified health educators facilitate comprehensive, age appropriate, evidence based and medically accurate sexuality education for youth ages 11-19 to reduce the initial onset of sexual activity and reduce risky sexual behavior among youth. Programming offered at Various R-Centers and schools throughout the City of Rochester.    

Positive Youth Development Programming
Offering youth a variety of positive youth development opportunities including job readiness workshops, financial literacy education, healthy relationship workshops, youth friendly special events and youth leadership opportunities 


  • SMAC (Students Making a Change)Youth Leadership Team: Be part of a team of youth who strive to become positive leaders and peer advocates in the Rochester Community! The SMAC Youth Leadership Team will work to reduce the rates of STIs and HIV/AIDS and unplanned pregnancies among youth in the City of Rochester. As part of the team you will have the opportunity to build leadership skills and participate in various activities and workshops. Workshops encourage youth centered discussions about values, relationships, sexuality, communication skills, goal setting, and decision making. Leaders can also help plan teen events, advise adult committees, develop service learning projects, advocate for youth rights and services and have FUN!

  • Community Outreach: SMAC Team conducts community outreach including Wellness Wednesday to increase youth’s knowledge of available reproductive health services in the City of Rochester such as Highland Family Planning.
