Genesee Riverway Trail - University of Rochester

The Genesee Riverway Trail is an off-road trail for walking, running and bicycling along the Genesee River. It extends through the scenic, historic and cultural heart of Rochester, from the Erie Canal to downtown and Lake Ontario.  It provides pedestrian access to the Genesee River, its scenic gorge, three waterfalls, eight pedestrian bridges and eleven parks, including four historic parks designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. 

University of Rochester

This trail head is located near the northeast corner of the intersection of Elmwood Avenue and Joseph C. Wilson Boulevard, at the south entrance to University of Rochester’s main campus. The trail runs north through the Bausch + Lomb Riverside Park along the wooded banks of the Genesee River adjacent to campus. 

To the south, the trail runs through Genesee Valley Park, a historic Fredrick Law Olmsted park, at the confluence of the Genesee River and the Erie Canal, and the junction of the Genesee Riverway Trail, Erie Canal Heritage Trail and the Genesee Valley Greenway Trail.  Amenities include restrooms, picnic areas, play fields, tennis, golf, outdoor swimming pool, indoor ice skating, canoeing and rowing. 

Parking is available in Genesee Valley Park.
