City of Rochester

News Release

(Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011) — Neighborhood and Business Development Commissioner R. Carlos Carballada joined business owner Michelle McQuay today to celebrate the recently completed outdoor deck expansion project at Nola’s BBQ at 4775 Lake Ave. in the Charlotte neighborhood.

The new outdoor deck accommodates additional dining, a bar area, a full stage for live entertainment and a panoramic view of the surrounding Charlotte area including Lake Ontario Beach.

“It’s wonderful that we have so many entrepreneurs in this city who are eager to grow within Rochester,” said Commissioner Carballada. “Nola’s is one of the successful businesses attracting people to Charlotte, and this expansion will help the neighborhood continue to rebuild itself as a vibrant destination for Rochesterians.”

Nola’s originally opened in early January, 2004. With 9,000 sq. ft. inside and 15,000 sq. ft. outside, Nola’s is a combination restaurant and club that offers a mix of Cajun and barbeque cuisine in a family-friendly atmosphere. The restaurant also features popular local music groups as well as hard rock and classic rock national acts. Live music is provided four days a week with performances inside and outside (depending on the season and the weather).

Nola’s is also available for private parties with options from appetizers to anything off the full menu which includes soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, barbeque and Cajun cuisine.

The City of Rochester has provided $15,000 from the Building Renovation matching grant program. An additional $110,000 in private equity investment was raised for the expansion. The funds were used for not only the deck enhancement, but also kitchen, restroom and building upgrades. The expansion has retained 26 jobs of which 13 are held by city residents. Another 10 to 15 jobs are expected to be added within three years.

Nola’s is open Wednesday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m.
