City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013) - Mayor Thomas S. Richards has announced that Laura Miller has been selected to serve as the new Director of the City’s Bureau of Parking, effective January 22. Ms. Miller was named to this position following the vacancy created by the departure of Susan Olley in July of 2012. Molly Clifford, Director of Fire Administration, had been serving as Interim Director of the Bureau while a nationwide search for a permanent replacement was conducted.

Laura Miller has more than 20 years of experience in transportation and parking administration, serving most recently as the Director of Parking for the Athens Downtown Development Authority in Athens, Georgia, for the past four years.

“I am happy to welcome Laura Miller as our new head of the Bureau of Parking,” said Mayor Thomas S. Richards. “Ms. Miller’s extensive experience in managing parking and transportation services gives me great confidence that she will do an outstanding job in meeting the City’s high expectations of leadership in the Bureau as we strive to be fiscally responsible during these challenging economic times.”

“Laura Miller’s professional qualifications made her the logical and standout choice as we sought the ideal candidate to lead the Bureau of Parking,” said Deputy Mayor Leonard Redon. “Her comprehensive knowledge in parking services administration—both on a municipal level and in the private sector—coupled with her skills and understanding of budget management, will duly complement the Bureau.”

"I'm really excited about living and working in Rochester, and I thank Mayor Richards and Deputy Mayor Redon for this wonderful opportunity,” said Laura Miller. “I am especially looking forward to immersing myself in the community, as well as fulfilling the responsibilities of serving as Director of the Bureau of Parking,"

Ms. Miller earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Niagara University and a Master in Business Administration from SUNY Buffalo in 1995. Prior to serving as Director of Parking for the Athens Downtown Development Authority in Georgia, Ms. Miller served as a Regional Operations Manager for Park ‘N Fly Inc., in Atlanta.

The Bureau of Parking oversees on-street parking, municipal parking facilities, installation and maintenance of parking meters, collection of parking meter revenue, and activity of parking enforcement officers.

The Bureau also oversees hearings for and collections of fines for parking infractions and municipal code violations. For more information about the Bureau, visit http://www.cityofrochester.gov/parking.

Laura Miller will start on January 22. Her salary will be $100,770.
