La Avenida Phase II Streetscape Improvements

La Avenida rendering(2) About the Project

The project area includes the public Right of Way and City owned parcels along N. Clinton Avenue between and including the intersections of Upper Falls Boulevard in the south and Norton Street in the north.

This project involves the design and construction of public improvements with emphasis on the public pedestrian realm and on-street bicycle accommodation.  The proposed streetscape improvements will invite and support pedestrian and bicycle use and safety, highlight and amplify the unique character of the street, relate disparate features of the project area, and contribute to its development as a residential, cultural, and commercial destination.

The project will extend and enhance the elements designed and constructed as part of the 2010 LaAvenida Streetscape Improvement Project.

Mayor Thomas S. Richards submitted legislation to City Council that would accelerate major infrastructure and capital projects planned for future years, creating jobs and allowing for work to begin within a few months.  The project will be locally funded with no federal or state funds anticipated.  The City’s good credit rating and the unusually low interest rates for municipal debt will allow the City to borrow at historically low rates, putting people to work rebuilding our infrastructure.

Anticipated Schedule

Design – December 2014

Construction – Summer 2015 through Fall 2015
