News Release - Mayor Lovely Warren Welcomes German Delegation at Annual Sister Cities Reception

City of Rochester

News Release

(Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014) – Celebrating 50 years of the City’s connection with Würzburg, Germany, Mayor Lovely Warren and Councilmember Carolee Conklin welcomed Würzburg mayor Christian Schuchardt and his delegation yesterday evening, Oct. 8 at the annual reception of International Sister Cities of Rochester (ISCOR).

Mayor Warren and Councilmember Conklin will reciprocate Mayor Schuchardt’s visit in early November for 50th anniversary ceremonies and to discuss additional opportunities for exchange between their two cities.

“Our world is increasingly interconnected and our city should follow suit,” said ISCOR President and City Councilmember Conklin. “Cities around the world are facing common challenges and have much to gain from nurturing people-to-people partnerships abroad in culture, education, humanitarianism and business.”

“This is just one of twelve international relationships that we cherish,” said Mayor Warren, who also serves as honorary chair of the ISCOR Board of Trustees. “I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped fuel these relationships, who helped bridge Rochester to the world, and I hope that you will continue your efforts to help all of us stay connected to one another.”

Würzburg is one of the twelve sister city relationships managed by International Sister Cities of Rochester, an affiliate of Sister Cities International, Inc. that functions on the mayoral level of Rochester and promotes cultural understanding and mutually beneficial exchanges between the Rochester community and the world. Past ISCOR exchanges have facilitated study abroad programs for Rochester students, brought music and cultural performances to the city and supported humanitarian missions like the donation of firefighting equipment to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.

The City thanks the Killian J. and Caroline F. Schmitt Foundation for their support of the Würzburg and Rochester delegations in their goals of city development and citizen diplomacy.
