Downtown Parking Advisory Committee Seeks Input on Downtown Parking

(Monday, January 12, 2015) – The City Downtown Parking Advisory Committee is seeking community input for a strategic plan to help guide the management of Downtown parking.

Administrators are trying to determine such things as overall satisfaction with Downtown parking, how much the availability of parking influences decisions to visit, work or live in the Center City and how factors such as location and cost affect parking choices.

To obtain this input, the Advisory Committee will host a two-session Downtown Parking Summit on Jan. 21 at the Penthouse at One East Avenue, 1 East Ave.
•     The first session, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., will focus on Downtown stakeholders, including property owners, Downtown employers and residents.
•     The second session, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., will be open to the general public.

The Advisory Committee will share information learned from previous Downtown parking studies and facilitate a discussion on how the issues related to parking can be incorporated into the revised Center City Master Plan, the blueprint for Downtown growth.

The City is also seeking input through an online survey that will available until Jan. 20. It can be found on the City website at www.cityofrochester.gov/downtownparking .

The Downtown Parking Advisory Committee includes representatives from the Departments of Environmental Services, Neighborhood and Business Development along with Downtown and community stakeholders. The Committee was convened as the result of the 2013 East Side Parking Study, which examined the parking options on the east side of. The study concluded that the current parking supply is adequate, but the study area will experience a shortage of parking options as current development projections are realized and occupancy rates continue to grow.
