Department of Transportation Projects to Affect Downtown Traffic

Interstate 490 Down to one lane Oct. 12-26; St. Paul Street closed under CSX Bridge through late November

Motorists can expect lane closures on I-490 in both directions under the CSX Railroad Bridge in downtown Rochester near the Inner Loop at Exit 13 starting on Monday, Oct. 12 through Oct. 26.

I-490 may be reduced to a single lane between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. in the area of the railroad bridge to minimize impacts to the morning and afternoon commutes. Day and night work is scheduled during the weekend of Saturday morning, Oct. 24, at sunrise to Monday morning, Oct. 26 by 6 a.m at the latest.

This work is being performed under a Highway Work Permit. Specific questions should be directed to Ian Elliott of CSX Transportation at (315) 656-5753.

Also, the next phase of work to strengthen the railroad bridges as part of the Rochester Station project is set to begin next week.

North Clinton Avenue under the railroad bridge will re-open in both directions on Tuesday, October 13 or Wednesday 14 pending progress.

On the same day, St. Paul Street under the railroad bridge will close in both directions between Central Avenue and Ward Street through late November.

Motorists travelling eastbound on the Inner Loop exiting at St. Paul Street will be directed to proceed straight to follow the detour to N. Clinton Avenue.

The strengthened bridges will accommodate an expanded railroad track system. For more info on the project, visit www.dot.ny.gov/rochesterstation
