News Release - Mayor Warren Kicks Off Comprehensive Plan Update Process, New Mayor’s Advisory Council

City of Rochester

News Release

(Thursday, April 28, 2016) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren has begun the process of updating the City’s Comprehensive Plan—a document intended to guide future development. The Mayor plans to include a significant public participation component in the process.

The new Comprehensive Plan will be entitled “Rochester 4.0 – Our Neighborhoods, Our Future.”  The City’s most recent comprehensive plan is “The Renaissance 2010 Plan,” adopted in 1999.
The update to the Comprehensive Plan is a requirement of municipalities in New York State and will be facilitated by the newly created Mayor’s Advisory Council (MAC), made up of residents, community stakeholders, businesses and neighborhood representatives, civic, religious and institutional leaders. Deputy Mayor Leonard Redon, City Council President Loretta Scott and City Council Vice President Dana Miller are also part of this Council.

“As we work to create safer, more vibrant neighborhoods, more jobs and better educational opportunities for our children, this update to our Comprehensive Plan will help us ensure that Rochester’s future is as bright as its past,” said Mayor Warren. “I am thankful to the many community stakeholders who have stepped forward to be a part of this process. They will work to produce goals, policies and recommendations that will shape future land use and development across all of our neighborhoods. I look forward to their ideas as well as input from residents.”

Federal Community Development Block Grant funds are allocated for the project. Bergmann Associates has been hired by the City to assist with demographic data research and trends analysis, community planning outreach assistance and planning case study research to help identify best practices.

The 33-member Mayor’s Advisory Council will help review the work of the project consultants (Bergmann Associates), the Technical Advisory Committee (composed of City staff with technical expertise from various departments), and the five Planning Area Committees (composed of residents and community stakeholders). The Mayor’s Advisory Council will discuss Rochester’s current issues, priorities and future vision and to develop the plan’s final recommendations.

The City will undergo various community outreach and public input opportunities will be made available throughout the process.

Once complete, the Comprehensive Plan document, “Rochester 4.0 – Our Neighborhoods, Our Future,” will be presented to Rochester City Council for adoption. Visit www.cityofrochester.gov/comprehensiveplanupdate for more information.
