News Release - New at the Link Gallery

 City of Rochester

News Release

(Thurs., June 22, 2017) — Windows on the World Photography, by photographer Philip Anthony Lange, is on exhibit in the City Hall Link through July 31, 2017. The exhibit uses reflections as a visual dialogue to explore different environments.

“Since 2007, I’ve been window shopping, looking into windows all over the world, and seeing a multi-layered combination of shapes, colors, objects, inside space coming with the reflection I see at the same time,” said Lange. “Capturing these layers of the outside with the inside allow me to create a kind of surreal, new image.

The exhibit also includes several of his large-scale panoramic photographs which allow viewers to feel like you are participating in the scene.

Lange taught art in the Rochester City Schools for 30 years. He has traveled extensively worldwide with his wife and two daughters and most of his photographs are from these travels. He graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota with a bachelor’s degree in Art in 1978. Lange came to Rochester to study photography at Visual Studies Workshop in 1979 and he received his master’s degree in fine arts in 1983.

His work has been shown at museums and galleries including: Contemporary Museum of Art, Chicago; Philadelphia Art Alliance, Philadelphia; Washington Project of the Arts. Washington, DC; Memorial Art Gallery, Rochester; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City; Visual Studies Workshop, Rochester; and others. His work has also been published in Structure of the Visual Book by Keith Smith (1988), Photo Décor (Kodak, 1982) and The New Photography (Prentice Hall, 1984).

The City of Rochester values the visual arts as an educational and aesthetic experience and sees local art as part of the region’s culture of their region. With this in mind, the Link Gallery, was established in 1981 to promote the arts and the art culture of the area.
