News Release -- Mayor Lovely A. Warren Condemns Trump’s Attack on the Rights of Transgender Patriots

City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, July 26, 2017) – Mayor Lovely A. Warren issued the following statement in response to Donald Trump’s ban on transgender members of the U.S. Armed Forces:

It seems like our country has been transported back in time with the Neanderthal policies coming out of the White House. Donald Trump's attack on transgender service men and women is just the latest affront to equality emanating from Washington. In Rochester we stand with and we stand up for our neighbors. Transgender citizens and all citizens are treated equally in this city and I will continue to fight the ongoing barrage of attacks from Washington against equality and individual freedoms. As a country we are better than this and I am glad in Rochester we understand that diversity is our strength and all of our residents are treated with respect and dignity regardless of race, gender identity, religion, national origin or sexual orientation.
