Accident/Records - Location and Hours:

Accident/Records is located at the City Public Safety Building, 185 Exchange Blvd. Business hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM to 4 PM; telephone (585) 428-7493; closed holidays and weekends.  

To Obtain Copies of Accident Reports:  

Copies of Accident reports are provided in person to involved parties for a $0.25 cents per copied page fee. Involved parties may also obtain a free copy online at policereports.lexisnexis.com*NOTE: Do not use www in the address bar). Insurance companies may also obtain copies of accident reports for a fee at the above web address. Others seeking copies of accident reports must file a Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request online at www.cityofrochester.gov/FOIL, in person at City Hall or Accident Records at the City Public Safety Building. 

To Obtain Copies of Criminal History/Record Checks:  

To receive a Criminal History Check, you must complete an application in person and present two forms of identification. The first is an official photo ID, which includes a driver license, non-driver photo ID, learner permit or passport. The second ID is your social security card. There is a $25 fee payable by Cash, Credit Card, Post Office Money Order or Cashier's Check payable to the City Treasurer. Background checks will be mailed within seven-10 business days. 

Criminal History Check applicants residing out of state require a fingerprint card from your local police department. A notarized photo copy of your driver license, non-driver photo ID, learner permit or passport, and social security card are also required. There is a $25 fee payable by Post Office Money Order or Cashier's Check payable to the City Treasurer. Call (585) 428-7493 for general inquiries.  

 

For Fingerprint Services: 


Fingerprinting services are available Monday through Friday, 1 PM to 3 PM; telephone (585) 428-7493. Most fingerprints are completed electronically through L1 Services. For more information, call L1 at 1-877-472-6915, or online at www.identogo.com. If you have fingerprint cards, please bring them with you, along with a driver license, non-driver photo ID, learner permit or passport. There is a $25 processing fee payable by Cash, Credit Card, Post Office Money Order or Cashier's check payable to the City Treasurer. 

 

Pistol Permit Applicant Information:  

 

Pistol permits applicants must reside in the City of Rochester. There is a processing fee of $125 payable by cash, credit card, Post Office Money Order or Cashier's Check payable to the City Treasurer. *Note: This fee covers FBI, NYS and Rochester Police Department Background Investigation and fingerprint processing for the pistol permit. To Obtain Copies of Crime Reports: 

Crime reports are only provided to the victim of a crime or the reporting person. Note: Identification is required to obtain a copy, along with a possible fee of $0.25 cents per copied page. If you would like to obtain a copy of a crime report and you are not the victim or reporting person, you must complete a FOIL request. This can be completed online at www.cityofrochester.gov/FOIL, in person at City Hall or Accident Records at the City Public Safety Building. Call (585) 428-7493 for general inquiries. 

To Obtain Information Regarding Arrested Individuals:
