City of Rochester
News Release
(Thursday, June 6, 2019) – The annual Flower City Feeling
Good summer series, sponsored by the Mayor Lovely Warren’s Office, offers many
opportunities for Rochesterians to stay active and enjoy the season outdoors.
“Our city is blessed with tremendous natural beauty and deep
history,” said Mayor Warren. “With our nationally recognized park system,
unique historic neighborhoods and majestic waterways, there are ample
opportunities for fun and exciting summer adventures. The Flower City Feeling
Good program is a great way to take advantage of all of them. A healthy and
active community is key to creating safer and more vibrant neighborhoods, more
jobs and better educational opportunities for our citizens.”
Rochesterians will be able explore nature, as well as the
city’s amazing historic parks and neighborhoods by bike, on foot or in canoes.
Each week from June 5 until August 28 the city will host Tuesday night bike
rides, Thursday night nature and history walks, monthly guided paddling
adventures and Zumba in the park. Walks and rides are leisurely with slight
grade changes, mostly on paths or sidewalks.
In addition to the host of outdoor activities, the Flower
City Feeling Good program celebrates Rochester’s best gardens with the Flower
City Garden Contest. Any gardener may nominate their own garden or a neighbor’s
garden to compete in the contest. Recognition and prizes are awarded in several
categories, including best use of container gardening, best use of a water
feature, best educational garden, best community enhancement garden, best
wildlife habitat garden, best use of art in the garden, best use of color and
best urban farm. To register a garden, visit www.cityofrochester.gov/gardencontest.
The contest deadline is June 25.
