 City of Rochester

News Release

(Tuesday, May 11, 2021) – Construction on the second phase of Main Street Streetscape project is set to begin Wednesday, May 12 on the stretch of East Main Street from the corners of South Avenue/St. Paul St. to Exchange Street/State Street. This phase of the project is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2022.

“We are excited to continue making improvements to Main Street that will attract further development to Downtown and complement other investments, including the Midtown Revitalization and Roc the Riverway,” said Mayor Lovely A. Warren. “These improvements reflect our commitment to enhancing the quality of life in our city, which is a major component of our efforts to create more jobs, safer and more vibrant neighborhoods and better educational opportunities.”

The project seeks to encourage pedestrian activity with features that include on-street parking, way-finding signs; phone and computer charging stations; bicycle racks; benches; and play elements along the sidewalks. Upgrades also include new sidewalks; planters, LED street lighting; pavement milling and overlay; minor bridge rehabilitation; new granite curbs; drainage improvements and other aesthetic and green infrastructure treatments. Full project details can be found at www.cityofrochester.gov/MainStreet2.

Motorists may experience delays during this time period. Pedestrian and walking access will be maintained and Main Street will remain open to two-way traffic. However, at certain times, flaggers will be on-site to direct the flow of traffic and pedestrians as needed. Parking restrictions will also be in place at certain times during the work. Signs will be posted to indicate any restrictions.
