News Release -- Statement from Mayor Malik D. Evans on Passage of Fiscal 2022-23 City Budget

City of Rochester

News Release

(Tuesday, June 14, 2022) – I want to thank my partners in government on the City Council for their careful consideration and final adoption of the Fiscal Year 2022-23 budget.

This budget is a reflection of my Administration’s priorities to focus City resources on Public Safety through intervention, prevention and suppression; Strengthening Neighborhoods with increased home ownership, affordable housing and small business assistance; Building Towards a Prosperous Future with strategic investments in infrastructure, including the Inner Loop North and Roc the Riverway; Youth Development with healthy recreation and educational enrichment at our R-Centers and Libraries; Economic Empowerment to create jobs and opportunities by supporting entrepreneurs and developing our workforce; and Promoting Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice to ensure all City residents can benefit from these investments and reach their full potential.

I also want to thank my Senior Management and Budget teams for their work to help me draft a fiscally responsible budget that calls for $627.4 million in spending with no increases in the tax levy. And I am deeply grateful to Governor Kathy Hochul and Rochester’s representatives in Congress and the State Legislature for their work to secure funding for projects that are literally transforming our city in real time.

This budget fills me with tremendous optimism for the work we will accomplish together to create a safe, equitable and prosperous Rochester.
