(Thursday, July 27, 2023) – The International Plaza will come alive Sunday with a full day of live salsa music, dancing, and delicious Latin favorites such as empanadas, alcapurrias and bacalaitos, specialty vendors, and free salsa dance step demonstrations. The celebration will take place from 1 to 6:30 p.m., Sunday, July 30 at 828 N. Clinton Ave.
Salsa has cultural influences derived from African drum rhythms, Spanish guitar, Afro-Cuban and Afro-Caribbean dance and is gaining popularity. Puerto Rican musicians Celso Clemente and Antonio Hernandez will perform a special tribute to Tito Rojas, “El Gallo de la Salsa.” Live performances will also be given by DJ Junior Gonzalez, Grupo Calle Uno, Orquesta La Muralla, and Orquesta Antonetti, emceed by Ju Ju Rivera.Dance demonstrations will give participants the opportunity to learn basic salsa steps.
The international-themed market regularly offers a Latin flair on Market days full of entertainment, family-oriented, cultural activities, and vendor opportunities for entrepreneurs and established businesses. Vendors and performers showcase an assortment of cuisine, culture, and heritage. The International Plaza is a gathering space to celebrate the arts and cultural assets of the El Camino Neighborhood. It also serves as an incubator for neighborhood economic development in the El Camino community. The Plaza is a joint project of the Ibero American Action League and the City of Rochester.
Free parking is available on site and in surrounding neighborhood lots and a free shuttle service is available from the Dr. Martin Luther King, #9 School parking lot located at 485 N. Clinton Ave. between12:30 to 7 p.m.
