News Release

(Wednesday, June 16, 2010) – Mayor Robert J. Duffy and City Neighborhood and Business Development Commissioner R. Carlos Carballada joined owner Aleksandar Illievsky at a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the reopening of a long-time Rochester favorite, Charlie Brown’s Restaurant at 495 N. Goodman St.

Aleksandar Illievsky has been in the restaurant business since the age of 14, working in his family’s business. Prior to reopening Charlie Brown’s Restaurant, Mr. Illievsky owned and operated Bay Hots, in Webster, New York.

Formerly owned by Charles Sciano, Charlie Brown’s was sold in 2007. The business closed again in 2009. Mr. Illievsky, with the help of his sister, Bilana Illievsky, took over the operation later that year. Their goal is to provide a high quality dining experience in this treasured Rochester landmark.

“It’s wonderful to see this icon return to this landmark location,” said Mayor Duffy. “The reopening of this famous and familiar restaurant is a real shot in the arm for this neighborhood.”

Commissioner Carballada reinforced the City’s commitment to the revitalization and transformation of this area. “Entrepreneurs, such as Aleksandar Illievsky, are important partners in making the City’s vision a reality,” Commissioner Carballada said.
