Coronavirus Response Update: Some Sports Leagues and Sporting Events are currently suspended or postponed.  The Genesee Valley Sports Complex Pool opened Saturday June 27th and Adult Baseball Fields are available to permit beginning July 6th,2020.  The Rochester Community Sports Complex is closed. The Bureau of Recreation offers both organized and open sports programs and leagues at R-Centers.  Many R-Centers and Community Centers offer both organized and open sports for youth and adults. For more information, call or visit the R-Center of your choice. Go to for a list.

Citywide Programs and Leagues

Citywide offerings include both organized programs and leagues for youth and adults:  

Baseball: The City hosts adult baseball leagues. Covid-19 restrictions regarding League play has been lifted and began play July 6th,2020.  For more information and registration instructions, call Nicholas D'Ambrosio  737-6872 or email:   or Athletics and Aquatics Manager John Picone at 428-7888.

NFL Flag Football (Youth only): The City hosts flag football each fall. Season begins September 14, 2020.  Stay tuned for more information, or call Don Corey at 428-7592.

Ice and Floor Hockey: Ice Hockey is played at the Genesee Valley Park Indoor Ice Arena; Floor Hockey is played at select R-Centers in the winter. For more information about Ice Hockey, call 428-7888 or visit Genesee Valley Park Sports Complex. For more information about Floor Hockey, contact your preferred R-Center to learn if that Center is fielding a team. 

Rochester City Soccer League: Rochester City Soccer School offers top-notch summer training programs tailored specifically for the soccer players who want to develop their skills in the off-season.  Rochester City Soccer offers recreation players (U 5-23) an opportunity to receive additional training from the professional technical staff to complement their regularly scheduled team practices and games.  Sessions are divided up by age groups.  We are looking to adhere to the COVID 19 guidelines and have decided it’s best not to have our regular league games to keep our players safe. Instead we will be having fun, small group skills sessions (times listed below). We are looking to cap each class at 10 players per session with 2-3 coaches/helpers.

RocSoftball:  (Adult)  plays at Cobbs Hill Park. Softball leagues are hugely popular in the City!  2020 Summer Leagues offered for Men's and Co-Ed Leagues.  All Leagues have 3 distinct level of play offered; Competitive("A"), Recreational("B") and Social("C").  (Seasons Beginning the Week of July 13th-17th, 2020)   Registration Deadline is July 3, 2020.

Men's and Co-Ed League Offerings-Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

- 10 games regular season followed by playoffs.

 Youth Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition. Each fall, youth ages 6-15 are invited to participate  in a local competition. Competition begins Wednesday October 2nd, 2019 at Rochester Community Sports Complex (at the downtown stadium) For more information, call 428-7592. 

Summer Swim Academy. The Learn to Swim (Fall/Winter/Spring) and Summer Swim Academy offers free swim lessons for kids ages 6-18, at six different skill levels--from beginner to advanced. For more information or to register go to,   Summer Swim Academy begins Monday July 6, 2020 for Session 1 and ends on July 30, 2020.  Limited Capacity due to Covid-19 restrictions.  Registration begins June 22nd thru July 5th for Session 1.  Session 2 begins August 3-20, 2020.  Registration begins July 6-30, 2020 for Session 2.  Students enrolled in Session 1 may re-enroll for Session 2 between July 30-August 3, 2020 if spots are available.  Locations are limited during the Summer of 2020.  Swim Academy Locations:  Adams St. Pool, Trenton and Pamela Jackson R-Center Pool (Formerly Baden Pool) and Genesee Valley Pool.  For more information contact 4428-7888. 

 Swim Rapids. Rochester Rapids Swim Team is committed to developing a culture of life-long involvement in swimming by providing youth in and around the City of Rochester the finest opportunities for competition and community involvement through the sport of swimming.  Click here for more information on dates and locations.  

Mom and Tot Swim Lessons.  Parents or Guardians introduce their children to the water while learning how to teach them how to swim and learn about water safety.  One adult per child is required.  Swim diapers must be worn.  Sessions are six weeks. The session begins Fall 2020.  Contact Adams St. Pool at 428-7456 or Brittany Bowman at for registering your child for the first session.
Tennis Lessons (Adult only).  Outdoor tennis lessons are offered in season in Rochester’s fabulous parks.  Due to Coronavirus Response not available in Summer 2020.   For more information, visit

Youth Tennis Lessons
The City of Rochester hosts the Maplewood YMCA’s Love 15 Summer Tennis Camp, where youth ages 8-16 learn tennis fundamentals. Due to Coronavirus program will not be available in the Summer 2020.  For more information, call Chuck Hazlett 277-1654, or visit Maplewood Family

Youth Wrestling. An introduction to wrestling sponsored by the City-Catholic Wrestling Association will be at the Thomas P. Rochester Community & Youth Sports Complex


The property at 460 Oak Street is now operated by the Department of Recreation & Youth Services as a youth sports leagues and community organizations will utilize the facility for year-round sports training.  The complex opened in spring 2019 with a variety of Sports Clinics such as lacrosse, football, baseball, soccer, conditioning and much more!  For more information about the Rochester Community Sports Complex and program schedule please call (585) 428-6841.
