The Bureau of Recreation offers both organized and open sports programs and leagues at R-Centers.  Many R-Centers and Community Centers offer both organized and open sports for youth and adults. For more information, call or visit the R-Center of your choice. Go to for a list.

Citywide Programs and Leagues

Citywide offerings include both organized programs and leagues for youth and adults:  

Baseball: The City hosts adult baseball leagues and will begin play May 26, 2021.  For more information and registration instructions, call Nicholas D'Ambrosio  737-6872 or email:   or Athletics and Aquatics Manager John Picone at 428-7888.

NFL Flag Football (Youth only): The City hosts flag football each fall. Season begins September 20th, 2021.  Stay tuned for more information, or call Don Corey at 428-7592.

Ice and Floor Hockey: Ice Hockey is played at the Genesee Valley Park Indoor Ice Arena; Floor Hockey is played at select R-Centers in the winter but due to CDC Guidelines adult league play will not occur in the 2020-21 season. For more information about Ice Hockey, call 428-7888 or visit Genesee Valley Park Sports Complex. For more information about Floor Hockey, contact your preferred R-Center to learn if that Center is fielding a team. 

Rochester City Soccer League: Rochester City Soccer School offers top-notch training programs tailored specifically for the soccer players who want to develop their skills in the off-season.  Rochester City Soccer offers recreation players (U 5-23) an opportunity to receive additional training from the professional technical staff to complement their regularly scheduled team practices and games.  Sessions are divided up by age groups.  We are adhering to the COVID 19 guidelines and have begun play for our spring season.  Contact Nicole Hercules at 305-1136 or Don Corey 428-7592 for more information

RocSoftball:  (Adult)  plays at Cobbs Hill Park. Softball leagues are hugely popular in the City!  2020 Summer Leagues offered for Men's and Co-Ed Leagues.  All Leagues have 3 distinct level of play offered; Competitive("A"), Recreational("B") and Social("C").  (Season Begins May 24th 2021)   Registration begins March 1st,2021 and deadline to register a team is May 14th,2021.

 Men's and Co-Ed League Offerings-Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

- 10 games regular season followed by playoffs.

- League Fee $750

- USSSA Umpire/Rules of play and USSSA new stamp bats.

 RocSports (Adult):  Men's Basketball League Played at Ryan R-Center Tuesday and Thursday nights pending current Level in Rochester and CDC Updated Guidelines.  For more information call: 278-0654 or email: 

 Youth Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition. Each fall, youth ages 6-15 are invited to participate  in a local competition. Competition begins Wednesday October 7th, 2020 at 5 p.m. at Rochester Community Sports Complex (at the downtown stadium) For more information, call 428-7592. 

Learn to Swim Lessons:  The Learn to Swim (Winter/Spring) offers free swim lessons for kids ages 6-18, at six different skill levels--from beginner to advanced. For more information or to register go to,   Learn to Swim Classes will restart Friday February 5th,2021.  People registered for Session 2 that was to begin on December 11th/12th,2020 will be contacted by Aquatic staff.  The Session 2  will begin on Friday nights on February 5th and end April 9th and on Saturdays beginning February 6th and ending April 10th,2021.  There will be no classes on the following dates( February 12th, February 19th and 20th and April 2nd and 3rd. Learn to Swim Class Locations:  Adams St. Pool and Trenton and Pamela Jackson R-Center Pool (Formerly Baden Pool.  For more information contact 428-7888. 

Swim Team- Rapids:  Practices will resume beginning Monday February 8th,2021.  The Rochester Rapids Swim Team is committed to developing a culture of life-long involvement in swimming by providing youth in and around the City of Rochester the finest opportunities for competition and community involvement through the sport of swimming.  Click here for more information on dates and locations or contact  

 Baby and Me Swim LessonsParents or Guardians introduce their children to the water while learning how to teach them how to swim and learn about water safety.  One adult per child is required.  Swim diapers must be worn.  Sessions are six weeks.   Session 2, which was postponed due to the orange zone, is now scheduled to begin February 6th thru March 13th,2021 and Session 3 is  March 20th-April 24th,2021.   There will be no class on February 20th and March 27th due to Holidays.  Class size are limited and are free.   Call 428-7456 to register.

Pre-K Swim Lessons(Ages 4 and 5):   Children are introduced to the rules and water safety while exploring the water thru fun and games.  The development of the class assist on youth focusing on what children will be comfortable doing in the water.  Use of flotation toy devices may be used in some instances during the course of the class.  Smaller class sizes are used to ensure instructor-child learning is maximized.  Call 428-7456 to register.  Classes are free.

Adult Swim Lessons:  Session 2 and 3 will resume with new dates below.  Aquatic staff will be in touch if you have already registered. Adults ages 18 and over are being offered swim lessons for $24.00.  Swim Lessons sessions are from 7-8 p.m. on Wednesday Nights and are at both Adams and Trenton & Pamela Jackson R-Center Pools;

Youth Tennis Lessons
Love-15 is a FREE summer Tennis Camp for Rochester City youth ages 7-17. The program is designed to teach skills, etiquette, life skills, and postive values. Camp Begins Apr.10 - May 29. For more information, contact Chuck Hazlett 277-1654, or visit 

Youth Wrestling. An introduction to wrestling sponsored by the City-Catholic Wrestling Association will be at the Thomas P. Rochester Community & Youth Sports Complex


The property at 460 Oak Street is now operated by the Department of Recreation & Youth Services as a youth sports leagues and community organizations will utilize the facility for year-round sports training.  The complex opened in spring 2019 with a variety of Sports Clinics such as lacrosse, football, baseball, soccer, conditioning and much more!  For more information about the Rochester Community Sports Complex and program schedule please call (585) 428-6841.
