Athletic Programs (Organized and Open)

The Bureau of Recreation offers both organized and open sports programs and leagues at R-Centers.

Citywide Programs and Leagues

Citywide offerings include both organized programs and leagues for youth and adults.

Basketball For more information about basketball opportunities for youth and adults, call  Don Corey at 428-7592. For more information about the City-Wide Youth Basketball League, visit Hockey at Genesee Valley Park rink(2) 

NFL Flag Football (Youth only). The City hosts flag football each fall. Season begins September 16th,2019.  Stay tuned for more information, or call Don Corey at 428-7592.

Ice and Floor Hockey Ice Hockey is played at the Genesee Valley Park Indoor Ice Arena; Floor Hockey is played at select R-Centers in the winter. For more information about Ice Hockey, call 428-7888 or visit Genesee Valley Park Sports Complex. For more information about Floor Hockey, contact your preferred R-Center to learn if that Center is fielding a team.  Registration for Floor Hockey begins on November 4th,2019 and league Play begins on December 3rd,2019.

 Rochester City Soccer League (Youth only).  Girls ROC Athletics (Youth only). Girl ages 8 - 14 Athletics program featuring Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball. Available at Flint St. and Frederick Douglass R-Centers. For more information call: 428 - 6015.

 Youth Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition. Each fall, youth ages 6-15 are invited to participate  in a local competition. Competition begins Wednesday October 2nd,2019 at Rochester Youth Sports Complex(Formerly Rhinos Stadium)For more information, call 428-7592. 

Learn to Swim and Summer Swim Academy. The Learn to Swim (Fall/Winter/Spring) and Summer Swim Academy offers free swim lessons for kids ages 6-18, at six different skill levels--from beginner to advanced. For more information or to register go to,

Baby and Me Swim Lessons.  Parents or Guardians introduce thier children to the water while learning how to teach them how to swim and learn about water safety.  One adult per child is required.  Swim diapers must be worn.  Sessions are six weeks. The first session begins October 12th-November 16th,2019.  Contact Adams St. Pool at 428-7456 or Brittany Bowman/Kevin Porter at bowmanb@cityof or for registering your child for the first session.

Youth Tennis Lessons
The City of Rochester hosts the Maplewood YMCA’s Love 15 Summer Tennis Camp, where youth ages 8-16 learn tennis fundamentals. For more information, call Chuck Hazlett 277-1654, or visit Maplewood Family

Youth Wrestling. An introduction to wrestling sponsored by the City-Catholic Wrestling Association will be at the Thomas P. Rochester Community Sports Complex
at the Downtown Soccer Stadium


The property at 460 Oak Street is now operated by the Department of Recreation & Youth Services as a youth sports leagues and community organizations will utilize the facility for year-round sports training.  The complex opened in spring 2019 with a variety of Sports Clinics such as lacrosse, football, baseball, soccer, conditioning and much more!  For more information about the Rochester Community Sports Complex and program schedule please call (585) 428-6841.
