City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2023) – Mayor Malik D. Evans was joined by administration and community leaders this morning to provide an update on the significant achievements towards the recommendations of the City’s Housing Quality Task Force.

Highlights of the update included announcing the City’s new Property Management Portal (www.CityOfRochester.gov/CivicsPortal), which offers a suite of self-service functions to help property owners and managers better oversee and maintain their housing portfolios and address code violations.

Features of the new portal include designating and updating building owner and property manager contact information; viewing lists of all open code violations per property; and submitting work schedules for open code enforcement cases.

For renters, a Property Code Compliance Score is now available at www.CityOfRochester.gov/CodeComplianceScore, where people can find an objective and transparent scoring system for better insight on rental properties. The system is also designed to drive improvements in code compliance and target enforcement efforts.

The City also unveiled a compilation of existing rights and responsibilities for both landlords and tenants. The document, titled the Landlord-Tenant Bill of Rights and Responsibilities, will be mailed to all property owners and renters in Rochester annually.

City leadership reviewed a long list of other completed actions made since the Housing Quality Task Force submitted its recommendations to the Mayor in June 2022. The full list is available at www.CityOfRochester.gov/HQTF.
