News Release - Statement by Mayor Malik D. Evans on the Passing of Iris Banister

City of Rochester

News Release

(Tuesday, March 12, 2024) – It is truly a sad day for Rochester. I had the great privilege of knowing Iris Banister, who was one of Rochester’s most fervent and beloved advocates for our citizens. Her commitment and dedication to peace and nonviolence, education and multi-cultural relations in her professional and personal life will be an example to the Rochester community for generations to come. Her work with the Rochester City School District, as Principal of the Charter School of Science and Technology, and as Executive Director of Wilson Commencement Park has positively impacted countless families. Her presence will be sorely missed, and my condolences are with her family and all those who had the good fortune of knowing her.
