Library Profile
The Central Library is the headquarters of both the Rochester Public Library and the Monroe County Library System. It occupies two buildings located on South Avenue in downtown Rochester; the Rundel Memorial Library Building, and the newer Bausch & Lomb Public Library Building across the street. The two buildings are joined together beneath South Avenue by the lower link level, which houses the Lower Link Gallery and "Teen Central". The Recreation Center closest to the Central Library is the Clinton-Baden Community Center.
The Central Library's collection contains over one million books, newspapers, magazines, DVD's, and other materials searchable through the Library's Classic Catalog and CatalogPlus. A staff of trained subject experts is available to assist patrons quickly and efficiently.
The Central Library also serves as a community gathering place for the free exchange of ideas and information. Study carrels, tables, and comfortable seating provide areas for quiet study or group gatherings.
Programs
"Safe To Be Smart" program: Activities and services geared toward youth. Located in "Teen Central", in the lower link level.
Small Business Programs: The Business & Social Sciences Division of the Central Library of Rochester & Monroe County and the College at Brockport Small Business Development Center (SBDC) co-sponsor free monthly programs on small business topics. These topics include marketing, time management, starting a small business, and legal issues surrounding small businesses. See the Library Events page for more information about individual classes and for registration.
