Library Programs - Monthly Small Business Programs at Central Library

The Business & Social Sciences Division of the Central Library of Rochester & Monroe County and the College at Brockport Small Business Development Center (SBDC) co-sponsor free programs on small business topics.  The programs, which started in February of 2008, are for aspiring and current small business owners.  Programs take place at the Central Library in the Kate Gleason Auditorium of the Bausch & Lomb Public Library Building located at 115 South Ave., Rochester, New York.

Pre-registration for programs is requested. Register by calling the Central Library at (585) 428-8130 or register online at www.libraryweb.org. Under Library Events, click on Search Events.

Jim Soufleris, Certified Business Advisor, will present “Marketing Know-How for Small Businesses.”  Effectively marketing your small business is vital to its survival!  A successful marketing plan is crucial to the selling of products or services.  The program will concentrate on how to maximize the promotion of your business with specific proven steps that connect you to your customers.  How to identify your niche and how to get more foot traffic through your door will also be discussed.  

Time Management for Small Business Owners (Wednesday, Apr. 13, 2011.  10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.)

Dave Denz, Certified Business Advisor, will present “Time Management for Small Business Owners.”  The program covers tips and tricks for small and micro business owners on how to get more done, grow your business, and reduce stress.  Whether you are a “one (wo)man show” or have a few employees, you can accomplish your daily goals.  First tip:  Bring a pencil and note pad!

Small Business Startup—Doing It Right (Wednesday, May 11, 2011. 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)

Jan Pisanczyn, Director of the Small Business Development Center, will present “Small Business Startup—Doing It Right.” Those attending will learn about key issues that need to be considered when starting a small business.  Topics discussed will include feasibility, legal structure, financing, business plan basics and more.  The program is appropriate for both first-time entrepreneurs and those who have recently started a small business. 

Legal Considerations for Starting a Small Business (Wednesday, Jun. 8, 2011. 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)

Carla Vazquez, Certified Business Advisor, and Jon Lazenby, Attorney, will present “Legal Considerations for Starting a Small Business.” Those attending will learn about key legal issues that need to be addressed when starting a small business.  Topics discussed will include choice of business entity, tax considerations, intellectual property, contracts and more.  The program is appropriate for both first-time entrepreneurs and those who have recently started a small business. Mr. Lazenby is a lawyer with a solo practice that counsels small businesses.
