Teen Empowerment Rally

Teen Empowerment organized over 200 southwest youth and adult supporters to mark in an effort o kick off a safe summer vacation season. They marched from Wilson Foundation Academy to the Flint Street Recreation Center. Teen Empowerment, located at 392 Genesee Street, Coordinated the efforts of the City of Rochester, SWAN, Pathways for Peace, Boys & Girls Clubs and Wilson Foundation Academy.
Genesee Business Youth Flower Planting Day

Celebrated the 10th Annual Great Genesee Youth Flower Project. State Senator Joe Robach showed up to support Rochester Academy Charter School students and other youth as they planted Genesee Street’s 72 concrete planters on Saturday, May 28, 2011. Sen. Robach’s office donated funds to purchase the youth refreshments and lunch from several Genesee St businesses. More volunteers came from Aenon Baptist, St. Monica, SWAN, Teen Empowerment and others.
Westside Farmers Market - Genesee Street

19th Ward 5K
June 3, 2011
Hundreds of runners, walkers and fans showed up Friday, June 3rd along Genesee’s spectacular riverfront for the third annual 19th Ward 5K. The event was hosted at Staybridge Suites showcasing the Brooks Landing area. After the race, families and friends enjoyed a riverfront cook-out, compliments of Staybridge Suites’ staff. Race proceeds benefited the Friday Night Youth Café of West Ave. United Methodist Church and Miss Sweet Potato Pie, Inc. youth dance team.
Ease on Down Thurston Road

On Saturday, May 21, 2011, Thurston businesses presented their successful first annual “Ease on Down” street promotion. Neighbors danced to the SWAN Community Band and DJ tunes as they visited 26 participating businesses. Kids played 3-on-3 at the YMCA and had their faces painted at Sensuous Satiables. Holley’s offered sidewalk dining. The Treasure Hunt game had hourly prize drawings for guests visiting 10 or more of the 26 locations.
