Playgrounds

The city’s playgrounds provide safe, healthy and fun outdoor recreational opportunities to youth and families. From unique elephant-shaped spray apparatus to the more traditional swing sets, slides and climbing structures, the city evaluates community needs, maintains and renovates outdoor play opportunities on a regular basis. Some play areas are specifically designed for toddlers while others appeal to older youth. The story of city playgrounds is often one of collaboration and partnership, and the realization of the dreams by city families and neighborhood groups. Community volunteers often work directly with City staff to rebuild playgrounds. Many are adjacent to a City recreation center, or schools, thus providing an even greater attraction for after-school and summer fun.
