City of Rochester

News Release

(Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018) - Mayor Lovely A. Warren today thanked the PetSmart Charities Foundation for awarding Rochester Animal Services a grant of $41,756 for veterinary and wellness care, supplies and equipment related to improving conditions for shelter animals.

“Rochester Animal Services is charged with the care and husbandry of thousands of stray and unwanted cats and dogs each year,” said Mayor Warren. “This grant will help us improve the health and wellness of animals in our care as we attempt to find them new homes. This project supports the City’s animal care and control efforts, which improve quality of life and help ensure safer neighborhoods, more jobs and better educational opportunities."

“Rochester Animal Services has been a trusted partner of PetSmart Charities for over 15 years. Their hard work and dedication to helping local pets in need is evident through their commitment to provide quality care and wellness for shelter animals awaiting adoption,” said Sima Thakkar, regional relationship manager, PetSmart Charities. “We look forward to seeing the impact that this program has within the Rochester community.”

The majority of the grant will be used toward the purchase of vaccinations, de-wormer, flea control and disinfectant. Additionally, a portion of the grant will be used to purchase new cat cages that will help reduce stress, illness, and aid in adoption to new homes.
