On-Street Parking: Parking Meters and Pay Stations
The City of Rochester Bureau of Parking oversees the installation, use, and repair of mechanical parking meters and electronic pay stations on City streets. It also collects revenues and is responsible for purchase of meters and pay stations.
The Bureau of Parking recently installed new multi-space electronic pay stations in the downtown area to
replace a number of old mechanical parking meters. One pay station does the work of multiple individual
parking meters, accepting both U.S. coins and credit cards. Installation of additional
pay stations in the near future will make downtown parking an even more streamlined process.
The Bureau of Parking repairs and (when necessary) replaces meters and pay stations if they are malfunctioning, damaged, jammed, missing or if they have any other problems.
What Are Hours and Rates for Parking Meters and Pay Stations?
Parking meters are in service from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Parking is free at all meters during the hours of 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. Weekends and legal holidays are not metered. During special events such as parades, festivals, or fireworks, or during street construction, meters may be bagged to prohibit parking.
