News Release - Phillis Wheatley Community Library Open House

Rochester Public Library

News Release:

(August 14, 2009) - The Phillis Wheatley Branch of the Rochester Public Library located at 33 Dr. Samuel McCree Way will host a public open house on Monday, August 24 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

The branch has recently reopened after completing extensive renovations. The Phillis Wheatley Community Library, built in 1971, was designed by architect James H. Johnson, whose work includes the Mushroom House in Powder Mills Park. Building on the original design, the renovation includes a curved soffit and new lighting that accents the youth space. New carpeting, refurbished furniture and remodeled shelving are found throughout the library. The new Adult area opens up to the wall of windows that looks out onto Ford Street. The Phillis Wheatley Library serves the community of the Southwest sector of Rochester, NY, including the multicultural historic Cornhill Neighborhood.
