(Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013)- On Saturday, Aug. 24, more than 1,000 SUNY Brockport students will be volunteering their time to participate in 67 different projects from 2 to 4 p.m. across Monroe County. These projects are a part of SUNY Brockport’s 4th Annual “Saturday of Service.”

Groups of up to 200 SUNY Brockport students will be giving back to their community as a part of Welcome Weekend at the college. Students will be participating in projects that will help restore and maintain the historic beauty of local buildings, parks and cemeteries. Led by team leaders who are mostly upperclassman, faculty and staff, each site will be staffed with students who aim to provide at least 1,800 hours worth of work on this day.

Mount Hope Cemetery, Arnett Branch Library and Rundel Memorial Library are three sites within the city of Rochester where the SUNY Brockport students will be volunteering. With almost 200 acres of land, Mount Hope Cemetery will provide over 150 volunteers with work on this “Saturday of Service.” Maintenance and restoration of buildings and spaces include basic repairs, landscaping and trash removal.
