City of Rochester

News Release

(Wednesday, April 29, 2015) – City Council Vice President Dana K. Miller today announced his “Rochester Clean and Green – No Litter…No Graffiti” poster contest for Rochester public elementary school students in kindergarten through 6th grade. This marks the 10th year that Vice President Miller has sponsored the contest, in conjunction with Rochester Clean Sweep.

“The purpose of the poster contest is to encourage children at the earliest possible age to take responsibility for our community and adopt an anti-litter, anti-graffiti mindset to make Rochester one the cleanest, greenest cities in the United States,” said Vice President Miller. “The contest also allows an opportunity for teachers to have a discussion with their students about the importance of keeping their neighborhoods free of litter and graffiti, how recycling helps to improve the environment and how a cleaner city benefits us all.”

Throughout the years, more than 2,000 elementary school children have submitted posters. Posters are judged in two categories: K through 3rd grade and 4th through 6th grades. All winners receive an award certificate and the first prize winners in each category receive a gift card valued at $100. Second prize winners receive $50 gift card and third prize winners receive a $25 gift card. Two honorable mention winners in each age group will be awarded with a $10 gift card prize. Winning posters will best represent the theme “Rochester Clean and Green – No Litter…No Graffiti,” and will be reproduced for display in schools, libraries, City recreation centers and more.

Poster artwork may be created from any medium but must be 8 1/2” x 11” in size. Artwork, lettering and ideas portrayed in the poster must be the work of the student. Submissions should include the name of the student, his/her home address, phone number age, grade and school on the back of the poster.

All entries must be submitted by mail no later than Wednesday, May 20, 2015 to City Council Vice President Dana K. Miller, City Hall, Room 301-A, 30 Church St. Rochester, NY 14614.
