(Thursday,
July 6, 2023) – Roc City Sailing,
Inc. received $20,000 from Rochester Area Community Foundation’s Ralph C.
Wilson, Jr. Legacy Fund for Youth Sports. The grant will be used for The Urban
Youth Sailing Program in partnership with the City of Rochester Department of
Recreation and Human Services.
In
2021 and 2022, more than 80 Rochester City School District students received
full scholarships to participate in Learn to Sail and Adventure Sail sessions,
which included sailing on the bay and sightseeing at the nearby wetlands.
ROC
City Sailing skippers and instructors lead the adventure sails as students
learn about the sport and enjoy sailing while exploring Irondequoit Bay. Each
lesson is customized according to the group and the weather conditions.
There
are 27 full scholarships available to city youth. The week-long sessions take
place from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on:
- July 10–14;
- July 24–28; and
- July 31–Aug. 4
There
are also scholarships available for youth to attend a half-day Adventure Sail
session on August 19, 2023.
