Organized and Open Sports Programs

The Bureau of Recreation offers both organized and open sports programs and leagues.

Many R-Centers and Community Centers offer both organized and open sports for youth and adults. For more information, call or visit the R-Center of your choice. Go to www.cityofrochester.gov/rcenters for a list.

Citywide Programs and Leagues

Citywide offerings include both organized programs and leagues for youth and adults.  

Baseball. The City hosts adult baseball leagues. For more information and registration instructions, call Athletics Director John Picone at 428-7888.

Basketball For more information about youth basketball opportunities, call City Athletics Director John Picone at 428-7511. For more information about the City-Wide Youth Basketball League, visit www.cityofrochester.gov/cwbbl. Hockey at Genesee Valley Park rink(2)  

NFL Flag Football (Youth only). The City hosts flag football each fall. Stay tuned for more information, or call Athletics Director John Picone at 428-7888.

Ice and Floor Hockey Ice Hockey is played at the Genesee Valley Park Indoor Ice Arena; Floor Hockey is played at select R-Centers in the winter. For more information about Ice Hockey, call 428-7888 or visit Genesee Valley Park Sports Complex. For more information about Floor Hockey, contact your preferred R-Center to learn if that Center is fielding a team.  

Flower City Soccer (Youth only). For more information and registration instructions, contact Program Director Jeff Reese at 424-0828, or Athletics Director John Picone at 428-6755. For more information about the Flower City Soccer League, visit www.flowercitysoccerleague.com   

Softball (Adult and Youth), played at Cobbs Hill Park and the Norton Street R-Center fields. Softball leagues are hugely popular in the City! For more information and registration instructions, call Softball Coordinator Andy Yazwinski at 428-6755.

 Youth Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition. Each fall, youth ages 6-15 are invited to a local qualifier for the regional and national competitions. For more information, call 428-7511. For more information about the NFL's Punt, Pass & Kick program, visit www.NFLPPK.com.

Tennis Lessons (Adult only).  Outdoor tennis lessons are offered in season in Rochester’s fabulous parks. For more information, visit www.cityofrochester.gov/tennislessons.

Youth Wrestling. An introduction to wrestling sponsored by the City-Catholic Wrestling Association will continue in 2014-15 at the Roxie Ann Sinkler R-Center, 75 Grover Street and the Thomas P. Ryan R-Center, 530 Webster Ave. For more information, call 428-6755.
